Speech therapy on your Macintosh...

All Bungalow programs will run on a Windows PC.  If you have a Macintosh, there are several options describe below.

We highly recommend that you try the programs out on someone else's Windows PC and determine that you are going to buy them before going to any effort using the options below.

If you have access to a Windows PC (maybe a friend's laptop, etc.) you can easily, quickly and cheaply find out if the programs are appropriate and you intend to buy them. Our programs are easy to install and use and you can download a trial for free.

Options for people who have access only to a Macintosh computer

1. Economical Used Windows Laptop

This is the easiest option.  It requires no computer knowledge and we can provide support for the Bungalow programs on a Windows computer.

We found the following company with low prices and a good reputation:

http://www.usedlaptops.com   1-800-642-6094, 9-5 PM Pacific

As of 5/2/07 they were a member in good standing with the Better Business Bureau. We have had at least one customer buy a laptop from them and have heard no complaints. They have been very helpful when we've talked to them on the phone.

They provide a 90 warranty on their laptops.
They usually have laptops for under $300 plus $20 S & H.

Computer Requirements

Short Answer:

Most Windows PC computers made since 2000 will run our programs. If you're not sure, try them out with our trial CD.  Trials are identical to the full version, only time limited.  So if the trial works, so will the full program.  You can also buy programs with our Money Back Guarantee

Detailed Answer (for computer geeks)

  • Windows 2000, XP, Vista, or Windows 7.

If your computer has a Start button in the lower left comer, and it was new in 2000 or later then you've got one of those versions. There are several options for your Macintosh.

If you have an older computer with Windows 95 or Windows 98 (which are 9 to 14 years old) you can still run all the programs except for Sights'n Sounds 2.

  • Sound Card

If  your PC ever plays music (even  just at start up) it has a sound card.  If it has external speakers, it probably has a sound card.  Speakers plug into the sound card.

  • CD-ROM drive

  • Microphone

Required only for programs that record speech (Sights'n Sounds, Numbers'n Sounds, and SpeechPrism) These are inexpensive. You can buy them for $9.50

  • Screen that can display 256 or more colors.
  • 160 MB Hard Drive space (if you're installing all 22 programs).
Most programs need about 10-20MB of storage. Typical low end PCs have 60,000 MB of storage so this usually isn't a problem
    .

2. Run Windows on your Mac

  • If you have a new Mac with the Intel microprocessor

The newest Macintosh computers with an Intel microprocessor allow you to install Microsoft Windows on that Mac. See these instructions to see if you have an Intel processor

  • If you have a Mac without the Intel chip you can use Virtual PC to run Windows.

Virtual PC is available through several  companies and cost about $80 the last time we checked (Jan 2009). You can buy it or try it free from Parallels.

You will also need to buy Microsoft Windows (see links in #2 above)

We do not have the resources to provide support for Virtual PC or for the Macintosh. So for most users,  we recommend getting a used Windows Laptop instead of Virtual PC. It'll cost about the same but give you an extra computer (so the patient isn't hogging your Macintosh) and we can provide better tech support for our programs.

You can purchase Windows 98 for about $70.00 from Amazon.   You can purchase Windows XP for about $100.00 If you purchase $300 or more of Bungalow programs within 30 days of buying Microsoft Windows or your Macintosh, we'll apply the cost  (up to $100) to your purchase, so you can get Windows free.  If you are purchasing $500 or more of Bungalow Software we'll apply up to $200 of the cost of buying Windows for your Mac to any purchase.

With Windows 98 you can run all of our programs except for Sights'n Sounds 2.

With Windows XP or higher you can run all of our programs.

3. CrossOver for the Macintosh

CrossOver for the Macintosh lets you run many Windows-based programs on the newer Macintosh's without running Windows. If you decide to use CrossOver and buy 1 or more of our programs we'll supply you with a free CrossOver license.

Basically, CrossOver takes the place of Windows. All of our programs are ready to try out on CrossOver except :
FreeForm Worksheets and Sights'n Sounds 2.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Download and install CrossOver from the CodeWeavers website.
  2. Download Aphasia Tutor 1 and 2 +OutLoud
  3. Read the Instructions for installing CrossOver (and then Windows Programs such at the above) on your Macintosh. Note: our programs have not yet been tested so they are not listed in the "Supported Apps".
